Chalateco's Restaurant brings Salvadoran, Mexican and Central American flavors together on East Main Street — a neighborhood place for breakfast before dawn, a long lunch or dinner with the family.
What we do
Pupusas are our signature — masa opened by hand, filled and griddled to order, served with curtido and salsa roja. Around them sits a wide kitchen: Salvadoran antojitos, Central American breakfast, Mexican plates, seafood, soups, tortas, kids’ meals and desserts.
We open at 5 AM Monday through Saturday with a breakfast buffet, serve a weekday lunch special, and keep the dining room warm and family-friendly through dinner. Delivery is available — just give us a call.
Salvadoran cuisine
The pupusa is the national dish of El Salvador: a thick corn tortilla filled before it ever reaches the griddle. Cheese, refried beans, chicharrón and loroco — an edible flower bud native to Central America — are the traditional fillings, and curtido and salsa roja always come alongside.
Salvadoran cooking reaches well beyond pupusas: tamales wrapped in banana leaf, plantains fried sweet, yuca with chicharrón, gallo pinto in the morning and long-simmered soups on the weekend. That range is what you’ll find on our menu.
